Dear Diary,

It’s a new month, so that means new adventures! I had a disappointing discovery, but also got some nifty gifts and started a new project! Fun!

So this was the final Bug-Off of the year, since winter’s coming and all. I made sure I had some time to spend and caught a bunch of bugs to gather up points to redeem for prizes. First, I got a toy centipede, which was cool, but then I got a ladybug rug. Which I already have. And then a termite mound. I thought maybe I’d gotten all the prizes and Flick had just cycled back around to the beginning (I think the rug was the very first prize I got), but then I got another toy centipede, so I have no idea what’s up. Random prizes? But since everything was a duplicate, I called it quits. Hopefully Flick has new prizes for next year!

Limberg stopped by to camp for a day on Xanadu, and it was delightful to see him again, even if he didn’t remember me. It’s just a shame I didn’t have any room on the island for him. I could use another grouch!

Oh, and I finally got to visit Clay’s home and it’s more bizarre than I could have ever imagined! A big fire in the center, a hay bed, a couple fossils, and some stone furniture. Now I don’t know if I want to give him any presents because I don’t want to ruin the look he’s clearly going for hardcore!

Now that it’s October, it’s time to start getting ready for Halloween, so naturally, I got a letter from Jack to give me a heads-up! “To my future loyal minions,” it read. “I’ll be creeping through on October 31st for Halloween, my dear pumpkins! Until then, contemplate this portrait of yours truly, and get to work gathering lots of candy, as all good minions should!” I initially hung the portrait in my rec room basement where I have a bunch of posters up, but it’s framed and kind of awesome so I feel like I should make some kind of spooky Halloween room to hang this in…

Mom also sent a letter that read: “With apple-stuffed cheeks, I take long walks and read long books. I take long naps in long pajamas. This time of year is wonderful, but far too short. Enjoy it while it lasts! — Mom.” She also included Mom’s tea cozy, which is adorable and displayed along with her other presents on the big table in my upstairs bedroom. I love fall, too. And no, it never lasts as long as you want it to.

I got a note alerting me to the addition of new body paint and eye colors I could get from exchanging Nook Miles. I got them right away but I haven’t tested any of them out, yet. I haven’t landed on my Halloween costume yet. Although maybe trying out the new looks might help me decide what to go for!

October also brought new DIY recipes that call for pumpkins. Since my music area full of instruments wasn’t really doing anything, I took it all down and turned that space into a pumpkin patch. So far I have a recipe for a scarecrow and a pumpkin table. Which means I could probably do up a pumpkin-themed room for Halloween which might be a good place to hang Jack’s portrait! I just hope it doesn’t take me all month to put it together because then it’ll be November and a Halloween room will just look weird.
